October 30 - December 16, 2011 - Transliteration Module (repeat) 7 weeks Using the textbook by Jean E. Kelly, Transliteration: Show Me the English we will explore the parameters of transliteration. Participants will have the opportunity to learn by reading and engaging in practice activities that will allow them to incorporate the various components required to make an effective visually accurate transliterated product. January 6 - March 9, 2012 - Expansion Techniques Module (New, previously offered in 2 parts) 9 weeks This course is designed to develop and enhance educational interpreters’ skills and knowledge of expansion techniques which involve 7 unique features of ASL. This module will cover Reiterating, Contrasting, Faceting, and Noun-Listing/Examples, Role-Shifting/Incorporation of 3-D Information, Couching/nesting, and Describe, then Do. It includes online discussions, readings, lessons, demonstration and practice of interpreting skills, and relevant assignments. The focus for this module is hands-on practice with feedback from fellow participants and the facilitator. January 16 - February 17, 2012 - One-to-One Mentoring Module - Session 1 (New) 5 weeks In response to frequent requests for the opportunity to work with a mentor, the Project is offering this module. (We will repeat this offering in April, 2012.) We will create an application that will require the candidate to know what they want to work on and be able to provide sufficient time to the activity. This will involve face-to-face discussion and work through video conferencing via ooVoo. Participants will need to have a web cam and download the free ooVoo program to enable video conferencing regarding their work. Participation as a mentee requires the candidate to identify a personal goal which can be attained during the mentoring program. An application form will be emailed to those who register. February 27 - April 7, 2012 - Expressive Skills Development (New) (6 weeks) A real “hands in the air” module where interpreters will work on developing or enhancing Transliteration module syllabus2012competence in specific visual skills such as use of space, pronominalization, locatives, and inclusion of depiction within transliteration. 12 participants Instructor/Facilitator – Laura Jackson

June 18 - July 20, 2012 - Sign to Voice Skill Development (New) 5 weeks This module will focus on producing idiomatic (i.e. natural sounding) spoken English expressions from ASL and Signed English models (both children and adults). Participants will benefit from sharing and comparing their voicing samples with their colleagues as well as the instructor’s sample. This module will be primarily skills based; requiring weekly/bi-weekly video uploads to YouTube, and will also require online discussions and constructive feedback on fellow participants’ work. Those wishing to earn CEUs from RID may do so using a Participant Initiated Non-RID Activity (PINRA) request. CEUs will be earned based on anticipated time spent each week by participatns. Mentoring module participants can earn 0.4 per week while others will earn 0.25 per week. The PINRA request must be completed before the module begins. The participant must complete all of the requirements of the module in order to earn any CEUs. Click here for more information on earning CEUs
