2009 Summer Institute

2009 Summer Institute for Educational Interpreters
August 10 - 13 , 2009

Monday, 1:00 p.m. August 10 through Thursday, August 13 at 4:15 p.m.
Location: University of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL
No cost to participants or districts for the training.
Participants must secure their own lodging. Special rates have been arranged at the Wingate Inn near the UNF campus. Rooms accommodate up to 4 (2 queens) and are $89.00 per night plus tax.
Participants working in a school district, traveling more than 50 miles one-way and staying in the hotel during the institute will be eligible for a stipend of $125.00 paid 6 to 8 weeks after the institute for project funds.

Institute 1 - FULL
Institute 1: Preparation for the EIPA Written and Performance Evaluations
Pre-requisite: Participant is committed to taking one or both of the evaluations in the next year.
Maximum participants: 25

Institute 2
Institute 2: Preparation for the NIC Performance/ Interview Evaluation
Pre-requisite - Participant must currently hold an EIE 2 or 3 or QA 2 or 3, OR passed the NIC written exam and plans to take the NIC performance evaluation by August, 2010.
Maximum participants: 20

Institute 3 -FULL
Institute 3: Preparing for the National Interpreter Certification (NIC) Written Examination
Pre-requisite -- Participant plans to take the NIC written evaluation before August, 2010.
Maximum participants: 30

Institute 4 -
Institute 4: Introduction to Educational Interpreting
Pre-requisite: Participant has worked or will be working in the school district in the fall and has not completed a college interpreter preparation program.
Maximum participants: 20
Instructor: Len Roberson

Institute 5 -
Institute 5: Leadership Training for Mentors/Lead Interpreters
Maximum Participants: 20
Pre-requisite: experience as a manual interpreter/transliterator. The participant must function as or be recognized by the District as the “lead” or mentor interpreter.
Maximum participants: 25
